 NORMAS DE PRESENTACIÓN DE ORIGINALES/RULES FOR PRESENTATION OF ORIGINALS

I. Caracterización general

 La revista Santiago es una publicación académica con orientación amplia hacia el campo de las ciencias sociales y humanísticas, aunque admite la fundamentación teórico-social de los estudios de las ciencias técnicas. Por su perfil, acepta artículos, nacionales y extranjeros, con resultados de investigaciones teóricas y aplicadas sobre diversas temáticas: Sociología, Filosofía, Psicología, Derecho, Historia, Historia del Arte, Lingüística, Literatura, Economía, Pedagogía, Comunicación, Medioambiente, Trabajo Social, Estudios Culturales; Ciencias Médicas y otras áreas científicas que realicen estudios sociales. Todos serán agrupados en cada número de acuerdo con el tipo de artículo presentado.

Su periodicidad es cuatrimestral (enero-abril, mayo-agosto, septiembre-diciembre) en publicación continua en español, inglés y portugués

Las contribuciones deberán ser trabajos originales e inéditos y no podrán estar postulados para otras publicaciones o instituciones editoriales de manera simultánea, excepto bajo la forma de resúmenes de comunicación a congresos u otras reuniones científicas, en cuyo caso deberá ser referido. Deberán cumplir con las Normas de presentación de originales.

El proceso de revisión de los artículos es bajo el sistema abierto. Lo cual permite una revisión por pares abiertos adaptado a los objetivos de la Ciencia Abierta, que incluye la apertura de las identidades de revisor y autor, la publicación de informes de revisión, la interacción entre las partes y una mayor participación en el proceso de revisión por pares.

General characterization

The Santiago journal is an academic publication with a broad orientation towards the field of social and humanistic sciences, although it admits the theoretical-social foundation of the studies of the technical sciences. Due to its profile, it accepts articles, national and foreign, with results of theoretical and applied research on various topics: Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, Law, History, History of Art, Linguistics, Literature, Economy, Pedagogy, Communication, Environment, Social Work , Cultural Studies; Medical Sciences and other scientific areas that carry out social studies. All will be grouped in each number according to the type of article presented. It is published every four months, although it also presents monographic and special issues.

Contributions must be original and unpublished works and may not be nominated for other publications or editorial institutions simultaneously, except in the form of communication abstracts at congresses or other scientific meetings, in which case they must be referred. They must comply with the Rules for submitting originals.

The article review process is under the open system. This enables open peer review tailored to the goals of Open Science, including openness of reviewer and author identities, publication of review reports, interaction between parties, and increased participation in the review process by pairs.

II. Proceso de arbitraje

La revista Santiago realiza una revisión por pares abiertos adaptado a los objetivos de la Ciencia Abierta. El tiempo de respuesta es de 3 a 6 meses. Las fases del proceso de evaluación de un artículo son:

• Fase 1: envío del original. El autor tambien puede enviar los arbitrajes elaborados por profesionales de la ciencia reconocidos. No obstante, la revista se reserva el derecho de tomar en consideración dicha recomendación o no.
• Fase 2: valoración por parte del equipo editorial de la revista del envío recibido; se analiza con un software antiplagio y se decide si el trabajo pasa a ser revisado por expertos o si es descartado, ya sea por motivos formales o de contenido.
• Fase 3: evaluación del original por parte de dos expertos en el ámbito temático que corresponda. En caso que el autor envíe el arbitraje realizado, se procese a su verificación por parte del comité editorial de la revista. La revista ofrece instrucciones y un formulario, que les permite a los revisores evaluar la calidad y pertinencia de los artículos.
• Fase 4: intercambio y consenso entre autores y/o revisores.
• Fase 5: envío del resultado de la evaluación a los responsables de la revista.
• Fase 6: socialización del número.

Arbitration process

The Santiago journal carries out an open peer review adapted to the objectives of Open Science. The response time is 3 to 6 months. The phases of the evaluation process of an article are:

• Phase 1: sending the original. The author can also send arbitrations prepared by recognized science professionals. However, the journal reserves the right to take this recommendation into consideration or not.
• Phase 2: assessment by the journal's editorial team of the submission received; it is analyzed with anti-plagiarism software and it is decided whether the work will be reviewed by experts or whether it will be discarded, either for formal or content reasons.
• Phase 3: evaluation of the original by two experts in the corresponding thematic area. In the event that the author sends the arbitration carried out, it will be processed for verification by the editorial committee of the journal. The journal offers instructions and a form, which allows reviewers to assess the quality and relevance of articles.
• Phase 4: exchange and consensus between authors and/or reviewers.
• Phase 5: sending the result of the evaluation to those responsible for the journal.
• Phase 6: socialization of the number.

III. Formato de presentación

 1) Los artículos se presentarán en idioma español, inglés o portugués (máximo 15 palabras del título) en un documento Microsoft Word.

2) Tendrán una extensión de entre 10 y 15 cuartillas numeradas, incluyendo gráficos, tablas, notas a pie de página y referencias bibliográficas. Interlineado 1.5, fuente Times New Roman, 12 puntos, tamaño carta. Todos los márgenes a 2,5 cm. Texto justificado.

3) En caso de utilizar tablas, gráficos o imágenes, deben aparecer a continuación del párrafo en que sean citadas (las tablas y gráficos deben cumplir con los establecido en las normas APA, séptima edición). Se enumerarán consecutivamente.

Presentation format

1) The articles will be presented in Spanish, English and Portuguese (maximum 15 words of title) in a Microsoft Word document.

2) They will have an extension of between 10 and 15 numbered pages, including graphs, tables, footnotes and bibliographical references. Line spacing 1.5, Times New Roman font, 12 point, letter size. All margins at 2.5 cm. Justified text.

3) If tables, graphs or images are used, they must appear after the paragraph in which they are cited (tables and graphs must comply with those established in the APA standards, seventh edition). They will be numbered consecutively.

1. Tipos de artículos

El autor debe declarar el tipo de artículo que está presentando:

1) Artículos de revisión: Examinan la bibliografía de una disciplina de manera profunda y rigurosa para reflejar la evolución histórica de un área disciplinar, comparar información sobre un tema, sintetizar resultados, conclusiones, etc. La revisión bibliográfica debe poseer un mínimo de 25 referencias.

2) Artículos de investigación: Trabajos en los que se den a conocer resultados generales o parciales de una investigación original. Dicho estudio pretende dar respuesta a una(s) pregunta(s) de indagación y con ello ampliar el conocimiento respecto a dicho tema.

Types of papers

The author must declare the type of article they are submitting:

1) Review articles: They examine the bibliography of a discipline in a deep and rigorous way to reflect the historical evolution of a disciplinary area, compare information on a topic, synthesize results, conclusions, etc. The bibliographic review must have a minimum of 25 references.

2) Research Articles: Works in which general or partial results of an original investigation are disclosed. This study aims to answer a question(s) of inquiry and thereby expand knowledge on the subject. The magazine also has a section dedicated to book reviews.

1. Estructura de los artículos

Todas las contribuciones deben contener los siguientes “textos auxiliares" en la primera página:

• Título en español, inglés y portugués (15 palabras máximo).
• Nombres y apellidos del autor o autores, con título académico, categoría académica, y grado científico de cada uno, si lo tuvieran. Deben incluir el código ORCID. La revista limita la cantidad de autores a 5. De ser más autores deben explicitar el porqué de esa cantidad.
• Institución de adscripción del autor o autores (nombre completo, ciudad y país).
• Correo electrónico de todos los autores.
• Resúmenes en español, inglés (Abstract) y portugués (Resumo), con una extensión entre 100 y 250 palabras, en un solo párrafo. Debe expresar los objetivos de la investigación, métodos o procedimientos empleados y principales resultados.
• Palabras clave en español, inglés (Keywords) y portugués (Palavras-chave), debajo de cada resumen correspondiente (entre 3 y 7 palabras).
• Normas APA 7ma edición.

Structure of articles

All contributions must contain the following "auxiliary texts" on the first page:

• Title in Spanish, English, and Portuguese (maximum 15 words).
• Author(s) full name(s), including academic title, academic rank, and scientific degree, if applicable. ORCID ID(s) must be included. The journal limits the number of authors to 5. If there are more authors, the reason for the additional number must be explained.
• Affiliation of the author(s) (full name, city, and country).
• Email address of all authors.
• Abstracts in Spanish, English (Abstract), and Portuguese (Resumo), between 100 and 250 words, in a single paragraph. The abstract should state the research objectives, methods or procedures used, and main results.
• Keywords in Spanish, English (Keywords), and Portuguese (Palavras-chave), below each corresponding abstract (between 3 and 7 words).
• APA 7th edition style.

The essays will present an introduction, development and conclusions, these parts will be declared explicitly. They can be structured in headings.

Los artículos de investigación y de revisión presentarán la siguiente estructura:

• Introducción. La presentación del problema u objeto de estudio y el objetivo de la investigación, que sintetice el fundamento lógico del estudio, el por qué se realiza, su importancia, utilidad y relevancia (justificación). Detalla el proceso de revisión bibliográfica sobre el tema tratado y su actualidad (fundamentación teórica). Debe tener actualidad científica (no menos del 40% de las referencias deben ser de los últimos 5 años).
• Métodos o metodología. Cuando se requiera, se fundamentan los métodos empleados en función de los objetivos propuestos y el objeto de la investigación. Definir el tipo de investigación o estudio, período y lugar. Definir la población o grupo de estudio, así como los criterios de inclusión, exclusión y eliminación. Describir los criterios y la justificación para la selección de la muestra si se requiere. Las variables analizadas deben ser descritas con claridad. Exponer con claridad los métodos de recolección de la información y de procesamiento y análisis que se utilizaron. El método estadístico debe ser el apropiado según el tipo de estudio. Debe cumplir con el principio de poder ser reproducido por otros investigadores. Declarar los aspectos éticos particulares para el estudio.

• Resultados y discusión. Los resultados presentan claramente los logros del estudio. En la discusión se contextualizan los resultados en el área disciplinar y se comparan con investigaciones anteriores, destacando los avances alcanzados o rectificando conceptos ya utilizados por otros autores. En la discusión los autores deben realizar análisis crítico de los resultados del estudio a la luz de los trabajos publicados por otros investigadores del área nacional e internacional. Explicar el alcance y las limitaciones de los resultados alcanzados. Describir la posible aplicabilidad y generalización de los resultados.
• Conclusiones.
• Referencias bibliográficas. Constituyen el listado de fuentes documentales utilizadas o citadas que aparecen referenciadas en el cuerpo del artículo, y no la bibliografía consultada por el autor. Se ordenarán alfabéticamente. Para la presentación de las citas y referencias bibliográficas se seguirán las normas dictadas según la 7ma edición del Manual de Publicación de la Asociación de Psicología de Estados Unidos de América (APA). • Conflictos de intereses. Si existen o no conflictos de intereses entre los autores o con otros sobre el artículo.
• Contribución de autoría. La participación de cada autor. ¿Qué ha realizado cada uno?

Research and review articles will have the following structure:

• Introduction. The presentation of the problem or object of study and the objective of the research, which synthesizes the logical basis of the study, why it is carried out, its importance, usefulness and relevance (justification). It details the bibliographical review process on the treated subject and its actuality (theoretical foundation). It must be scientifically current (no less than 40% of the references must be from the last 5 years).
• Methods or methodology. When required, the methods used are based on the proposed objectives and the object of the investigation. Define the type of research or study, period and place. Define the study population or group, as well as the inclusion, exclusion and elimination criteria. Describe the criteria and justification for sample selection if required. The variables analyzed must be clearly described. Clearly state the methods of data collection and processing and analysis that were used. The statistical method must be appropriate according to the type of study. It must comply with the principle of being able to be reproduced by other researchers. Declare the particular ethical aspects for the study.
• Results and Discussion. The results clearly present the achievements of the study. In the discussion, the results in the disciplinary area are contextualized and compared with previous research, highlighting the progress made or rectifying concepts already used by other authors. In the discussion, the authors must carry out a critical analysis of the results of the study in light of the works published by other researchers in the national and international area. Explain the scope and limitations of the results achieved. Describe the possible applicability and generalization of the results.
• Conclusions.
• Bibliographic references. They constitute the list of documentary sources used or cited that appear referenced in the body of the article, and not the bibliography consulted by the author. They will be arranged alphabetically. For the presentation of citations and bibliographical references, the rules dictated by the 7th edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) will be followed. • Conflicts of interest. Whether or not there are conflicts of interest between the authors or with others about the article. Authorship contribution. The participation of each author. What has each done?
