The Independent Artist, a Social Actor of Cuba in the Period 1990 until Present

Abstract

This essay is focused on the question of the independent artist in the fine art in Cuba during the decade of 1990 and 2000, with the proposal of remark its role in the social structure of that time. Even when the independent artist´s figure does not consider like a social actor in the emergent Cuban social structure 1990’-  2000’ years, the importance of its role like generators of symbolic capital justifies a particularized study in a crucial moment of the history of the country and in circumstances in which they took part in the political and social criticism through different speeches. There is used the theory and methodological points of view of the Sociology of art, and also, the results of the researches of the Psychological and Sociological Researcher Center.
