Abstract

Cuban cultural policies frequently conceive cultural heritage within the framework of a monumentality, intangible or not, provided with cultural and historical values built throughout the ages. The musical heritage is also within this trend of thought. However, such values often hide behind contemporary, controversial and even demonized musical genres. Towards this direction this text is directed, whose objective is to unveil the heritage aspects hidden behind the rap-reggae and reggaeton music scenes. Within a broader investigation that is based on methodological triangulation but, above all, in the qualitative perspective, some elements are explored that go back well to the Cuban sound tradition than to a local Caribbean subjectivity. Both types of traits, with patrimonial substratum, underlie the two communities of taste that, by way of example, thread contemporary with tradition.
