Abstract

This paper analyzes the process of Antonio Maceo's political leadership formation in the Great War, which began before October 10, 1868, when he led a conspiracy group in Majaguabo that would later become the Majaguabo Section within the Cuba Division of the Liberator Army. It is shown that in the first four years there is little political activity of Maceo, however his presence in transcendental events of the Revolution allow him to assimilate the experiences that, later, will serve as the basis for the conformation of a political thought and the performance of a leadership from the most radical positions of the mambisado. The Baraguá Protest is then the highest point of that thought and its political leadership.
