Abstract

In the 140th anniversary of the Baraguá Protest, the present study reflects on the significance and transcendence of the event in the revolutionary political trajectory of Antonio Maceo and about José Martí's assessment of the event and its protagonists. In the first part, Maceo's thought is analyzed and define the main lines of action prior to the historical interview and the significance of the event in its subsequent trajectory. In the second part, the criteria issued by José Martí on Baraguá's protest are valued, in which they converge their appreciation of one of the main events in the history of Cuba and its main protagonist, and the treatment given by one of its main witnesses.
