The carnival and the political history of Santiago de Cuba (1902-1958)

The analysis of the carnival of Santiago de Cuba (1902-1958) reveals a framework of conflicts generated in the political history of this city, once the Cuban nation was constituted, which involve individuals in the exercise and defense of their cultural practices in the face of the new patterns of behavior in civil society that take place in this historical time. Therefore, the objective of this study is to signify the relationship between the Santiago de Cuba carnival and Cuban politics, during the period from 1902 to 1958. In this historical, political and cultural conjectural stage that concerns us, it is evident how the Santiago de Cuba carnival it faces, once again, the incomprehension, marginalization and censorship of its detractors. What to do is perpetuated in the human condition that reveal a sense of belonging and a symbol of secular resistance; also giving proof of authenticity and acquiring national recognition.
