Social participation of the older adult, in the 7 de septiembre neighborhood

Abstract

The social participation of the elderly is important because it influences the inclusion, decision making, activities and bond established in the community. The objective is to identify the factors that affect the social participation of older adults in the 7 de Septiembre neighborhood. This research has a quantitative approach, a simple random probabilistic sampling was applied, with two surveys as main instruments for data collection aimed at the Elderly and the Neighborhood Directive, the data were processed in the SPSS Software. The results obtained reflect a series of interrelated factors that affect social participation in community initiatives aimed at older adults through social activities, an area that requires attention and effectiveness may be limited by ageism or stereotypes and environmental barriers. The discussion reflects the relationship between autonomy, stereotypes, environmental barriers and social support that highlights the complexity and suggests that interventions must be comprehensive and adapted to the specific needs of the age group. In conclusion, social participation is not only an indicator of well-being, but also an essential element for autonomy and quality of life.
