Pedagogical interpretation of sabermetric patterns for tactical decisions in pitchers from Santiago de Cuba

Abstract

The research applied a methodology to pedagogically interpret sabermetric patterns in the tactical decisions of pitchers from Santiago de Cuba. A pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test was used on a sample of pitchers. The methods included scientific observation of games, surveys, semi-structured interviews, and a pedagogical intervention in sessions, grounded in learning psychology and constructivism. The main results showed a substantial improvement in the pitchers' sabermetric knowledge, as well as a notable increase in tactical accuracy in unfavorable counts during games. The relationship between increased knowledge and tactical performance was positive; self-efficacy correlated with better post-intervention performance. It was possible to reduce the interference of intuition and modify decisions under pressure. The methodology proved effective in transferring statistical patterns to the competitive context of Santiago de Cuba's baseball, improving players' self-regulation and tactical language.
