Abstract

In this article we show some truths of the history of the Ovawambo. This people are incorporated into the bantu family, and they lived in southern Angola and northern Namibia. Also, we study its social, political and cultural organization, and we give emphasis to king (“ohamba”) Mandume Ya Ndemufayo, her feats and her strategies against the colonial occupation in order to preserve the independence of her people until her death. King Mandume was deficiently interpreted along the pre-colonial period, by the Portuguese’s historiography. He was taken as a tyrannical, discourteous and disrespectful man. In this article we refute theses ideas.
