Abstract

The characteristics of the theater of military operations in Guantánamo favored the effort for the independence, when offering refuge to the mambises and to favor the development of their maneuvers and surprising actions against the Spanish units. In spite of the actions to condition that theater, the Cuban forces in 1898 were under conditions to sustain the armed fight for indefinite time and to decide the war to their favor, because they had the initiative, contrary to Spain that could not make the same thing, for the economic, political and military waste. The Cuban victory was predictable in a relatively short term.
