Foundation of Universidad de Oriente: Origins and Statutes

Abstract

This paper expounds the historic origins of the foundation of the Universidsad de Oriente, on October 10th, 1947, and the essential contents of Law # 16 of 1949, which sanctioned the creation and functioning of the university, ratifying its organization and regime. An analysis of the Statutes drafted by the Board of Directors of the University months before its inauguration and promulgation of the Law is also made. The Statutes of the Oriente University were born  shaped by an adequate philosophy and were the base for a campus life that served a lot to the development of the Institution. This  proves the class and quality of University conforming, since its very beginning, to the motto of "Science and Conscience".
