The observables: a methodological proposal for the diagnosis of community studies from a marxist perspective

This research article addresses the conceptualization and theoretical-epistemological foundation of using observables as a tool for diagnosing and promoting, in scientific research and postgraduate teaching, the application of the legacy of Marx and Engels, which contributes to emancipatory community development. This contrasts with training and research approaches that reproduce paternalistic and oppressive logics, reflecting the structural tension between the logic of capital and the construction of popular power. Observables are considered insofar as they are grounded in the critical and configurationist epistemological tradition, articulating emancipatory praxis with the overcoming of traditional methodological logics, to contribute to the understanding and transformation of community-based social phenomena. The article emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach that recognizes the multiconditionality of social phenomena, integrating the objective and subjective, historicity, totality, and the critical analysis of the capitalist system and its manifestations in the community, in order to foster an investigative and transformative praxis based on Marxist categories. This assumption stems from one of the tasks of the research project "Dialectics of Community Development – Marx and Engels," carried out in response to the call for proposals from the national program "Marxist Theory and Ideological Processes in Contemporary Cuban Society." A set of observables was developed to identify patterns in the application of Marx and Engels's legacy in postgraduate programs and doctoral and master's theses in community development at the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas (UCLV) during the period 2000-2024.
