Technological Mediation with Genially for the Development of Cultural Competencies in General Basic Education

Technological mediation offers an alternative for linking school content with the sociocultural context and fostering more active student participation. The aim of this research was to design and evaluate a proposal for activities mediated by Genially to promote the development of cultural competencies among sixth-grade students at the San Gerardo Educational Unit. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, utilizing a non-experimental, cross-sectional design with a descriptive-propositive scope. The study population consisted of 20 students, from which a purposive sample of 12 was selected; four experts also participated. Data collection instruments included a non-participant observation guide, a student questionnaire (with an internal consistency of α = 0.82), and an expert rating scale. The diagnostic phase revealed difficulties in interpreting, valuing, and communicating cultural expressions: only 16.7% of students successfully communicated knowledge through creative resources. Although 75.0% showed interest in images, videos, and stories, only 25.0% engaged in sustained interpretation. In response, the "Interactive Routes of Our Culture" proposal was designed, comprising five activities organized into stages of exploration, interaction, creation, socialization, and formative assessment. Expert evaluation yielded a general mean score of 4.63 out of 5, indicating a very high level of relevance, coherence, contextualization, interactivity, feasibility, and evaluative functionality. The study concludes that the proposal represents a relevant pedagogical alternative for integrating technology, culture, family, and community; however, its effectiveness remains to be verified through future implementation involving pre- and post-intervention measurements.
