The colonial past of the Cuban afrodescendant woman of the 19th century. Legitimized Wealth?

The aim of this study is to show the enriching contribution of the Afro-descendant woman, to the historical-cultural context of the 19th century in spite of the epochal conditions. A brief overview of the complex existential framework of the afrodescendant women of Cuba in the 19th century and its components is presented, focused on their presence, whether free or enslaved, in the urban or rural colonial areas and their imprint because of them. Reference is made to the life and work of Mariana Grajales. The research methodology is based on the collection and analysis of data derived from previous research. The results present some interpretative formulas to understand the vision of afrodescendant women in Cuba and other Caribbean countries from the past to current times, which show that new perspectives are needed to achieve the legitimizing recognition of their contributions, often still invisible.References
