The democratic ideal in José Martí: from representation to participation

He current debate on juspublicistic models contains the fundamental contradiction between representation and participation. José Martí, who developed his life in the second half of the 19th century, probably received the influence of the representative model through the official texts for the study of Political Law in Spain. In the beginning he came to admire this model; but his experiences in the United States, and the disappointment over the functioning of the American political system, led him to progress to embrace the participatory model, an ideal that inspired the structural and functional design of the Cuban Revolutionary Party.
