Family food security in Santiago de Cuba: comparative study in the Chicharrones and Los Maceos communities

The problems of hunger and malnutrition in the world point to the need to study food realities globally. Its urgency to face food insecurity requires identifying the different factors and social actors that affect food security at national, local and family levels. The article presented aims to assess the incidence of factors and social actors in the configuration of family food security in the Chicharrones and Los Maceos communities, Santiago de Cuba municipality. In the study, the qualitative and quantitative methodology was used, as well as the techniques of the interview, scientific observation and the questionnaire. The results obtained showed problems in the communities studied, for example: emergence of dysfunctional families, the social vulnerability of the communities, insufficient access to food, among others. Hence the importance of attention to public policies on food.
