Discursive-functional grammar (GDF) as a theoretical-referential basis for studies of evidentiality in reports

The main objective of this article is to delve into the theoretical aspects of evidentiality as the conceptual-functional category responsible for manifesting the source of information declared in a discourse. The approach is carried out from the perspective of Hengeveld and Mackenzie's (2008) Discourse-Functional Grammar (DFG), as an effective methodology for contemporary linguistic studies, based on its location within the Grammatical Component. It focuses specifically on the citative and reportative subtypes, which point to another speaker as the source of information. These manifest different degrees of intentionality of the journalist, as they function as discursive strategies that indicate their position regarding what they report. Therefore, they are considered linguistic resources (syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, stylistic), inherent to the message, that journalists use to increase the effectiveness of the information. This work contributes to a deeper understanding of this category from a functionalist perspective, which has been little addressed in linguistic studies in Cuba.
