The spanish military army: immigration route gallega to the jurisdiction of Santiago de Cuba during the wars of independence (1868-1898)

Diverse were the causes that impelled the Galician collective to emigrate from their land to the jurisdiction of Santiago de Cuba –declared as such since 1847– in the period of the Wars of Independence. However, the article presented only aims to address the Spanish military army as one of the ways that led to it. It includes a balance of the main characteristics of the Galician population residing in the territory, and emphasizes in the group that declared to dedicate itself to military activities. The study has been carried out from the information provided by the Notarial Protocols, among which are the scribes of Manuel Caminero, Heraclio García, José Lazo, the Royal Public Government and War, and those of Caney and Cobre.
