Abstract

One of the challenges in the teaching-learning process of English is to achieve the best uses of the various scientific-technical publications in English. Hence, reading practice should avoid fragmentation and superficiality, and promote reflection, systematization and critical attitude around the information to allow the students` domain of the content area to develop new ways of comprehension, interpretation and knowledge organization. In this sense, it is necessary to continue with the search for methodological ways to satisfy this demand. The objective of this work is stand out the need of the reading practice integrating critical reading and functional reading for the development of comprehension and interpretation in English in university students. The methods analysis- synthesis, and induction- deduction, permitted to deepen into this topic and make reflections about reading in English by university students and the need to assimilate the academic and scientific of the information that ensure the students´ insertion in the scientific and labor community.
